Steven Brown is the director of the NeuroArts Lab. The lab´s research is devoted to understanding the neural, cognitive and evolutionary foundations of the arts, including:

music
dance
the verbal arts
the visual arts

The lab´s studies also focus on the mechanisms of emotion in both the creation and apprehension of the arts.

A unique evolutionary focus of the lab is a revival of comparative musicology studies, including an exploration of the geography and cultural evolution of world musical styles.

The NeuroArts Lab is located in the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour at McMaster University and is associated with the McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind and with MiNDS, the McMaster Institute for Neuroscience Discovery & Study.
